FORGING AN AXE - November 8 - 9th 2025
FORGING AN AXE
Axes are one of mankinds oldest tools. With this most versatile tool we have been able to build, feed, defend and warm ourselves for thousands of years. It is useful not only for forest workers but also skilled craftspeople and householders alike. A beautifully crafted axe will last through the generations.
Learn how to forge a single piece 1LB hatchet over the course of a weekend.
DAY 1 : Learn the traditions and skills of the blacksmith , followed by forging your axe head from Swedish carbon steel. This will take most of the day ...
DAY 2 : Learn the basics of heat treating followed by hardening, tempering and grinding the edge. Handle prep and fitting as well as fitting the sheath.
This course is for 4 people and the goal is that each guest will take home their own hand forged axe and to learn more about the traditions surrounding this iconic tool.
Alex travelled to Sweden in 2014 to learn axe making with Master blacksmith Fredrik Thelin . There he discovered a love of not only making these tools but also a love of Nordic culture and has spent the following years honing his skills, perfecting his style and learning about the old ways of this ancient craft - this is what he would like to teach to others.
